Rhododendron tree

I had never seen ツツジ / Rhododendron as a tree, even if part of the word is derived from the word tree (Ancient Greek ῥρόδον rhódon "rose" and δέντρο déndro "tree").
A real tree
Yesterday, I saw one near the airport of Narita.


















But, I have seen seas of rhododendron - one of them is near to the Kawamura Museum of Art at the Central Research Laboratories of the chemical company DIC.
Part of it is shown on the left side.

It extends over several hundreds of square-meters and can be visited during the flowering season (end of April).

The picture on the left side is from an area which is not publicly accessible - so enjoy it.

Origami box

In Japan, often the wrapping of a present is at least as important as the real present. If you have to give away some small things - like a Porsche car key or some jewellery - present it in a origami box. The introduction below is derived from the explanation here . But the original explanation produces a box with a fold on the main surface which isn't beautiful (see last picture). Therefore, I have corrected the first steps. A square of 25.7 cm produces a box of 9 cm. That will be the cover of the box. For the real box, you will need a square of 25.2 cm. Rectangular folded box

You can find many folding instructions for square boxes - I also published one - see here . Rectangular ones are somewhat more seldom to find. I needed one, so I made a simple one by myself. I will show you what I did. Please try and improve it. Paper: When I digitized my books, I cut off the spine so I could use an automatic scanner for scanning the text pages. Usually, I kept the first and last paper pages which often are coloured and/or have some design. They also are a little bit heavier than the normal paper of the books. For making the box below I used such a page. Plan: I want to make a box, 14 cm long, 2 cm wide and 2 cm high. I need the box and a cover for it: so 2 boxes, the first one with the dimensions above and the second one, the cover box, a bit larger with 14.5 cm long and 2.5 cm wide.
